While the introductory information was interesting and useful, in the bird guide it was difficult to find the bird you were searching for because pages of text would be followed by a few pages of pictures, and you would need to leaf back and forth. Other guides I have used have had the photo and description together, or all photos and all descriptions, but not mixed. The Kindle version makes searching even more difficult. Also, the number of birds included is very basic, as others have noted. I thought it useful to include a large section on flora, but the same organization of material is problematic.

All we need now is an illustrated guide to spiders!! But I am fascinated by the varieties (of birds, especially), and everything is so clear and understandable. Well done!

This field guide is very complete, has excellent illustrations and provides region by region detail for all things animal and vegtable. The fact that it is bilingual (and also includes Latin designations) makes it especialy useful on the ground for sharing information with local travelers or colleagues.

I took this book with me to Chile in March. I used it constantly to look up plants and animals as well as ecosystems. It is one of the best field guides I have used. A huge thank you to the author for her work on this text, it is one of the best.

Very clear info, good overview of Chile's areas, great art work, good arrangement of birds and text, excellent size for a field guide.

I brought a few of these books down to a bookstore in Southern Chilean Patagonia, and they sold out quickly. I use my own copy for identifying some of the animals that I photograph for various websites, including Flickr groups. The illustrations are adequate in some cases but I find myself wishing for better views, such as birds in flight as well as in repose. Not sure why the book had to include so much on flora -- which I don't usually associate with "wildlife." The heavy stock is nice and durable but also makes the book heavy, so I don't carry this book with me on hiking trips. The fairly detailed regional maps were a bonus I did not expect and these help if you are not familiar with an area.

This is a beautifully organized and marvelously illustrated guide to birds and other wildlife in Chile. The text and maps are outstanding.It sets a high standard for preparing similar books for other regions of the world.
